Ringing bells raised the curtains for Freedom 251 in the month of February. Many people began to believe on hearsay that the phone is fraud. Ringing beslls stated that the deliveries of the phone will commence from June 28, 2016.
Ringing bells is not so widely known company, which came in the limelight after declaring that Freedom 251- Rs. 251 smartphone, now states that it will begin deliveries of the handsets to the customers from 28th of June 2016.
Deliveries will begin for the customers who registered for purchasing the phone, a Noida-based company’s Managing Director, Mohit Goel stated.
“We will commence shipment of Freedom 251 from 28th of June ot the customers who had made payment on COD (Cash-on-delivery) basis,” he said to Press Trust of India.
Ringing Bells started to sell the handset, Freedom 251, through its website in the month of February. But the launching of the smartphone advertised to be the most cheapest smartphone, came into controversy, with many people describing it as the scam.
At the time of 2 days sale, website also got crashed as many prospective buyers shown sheer interest in purchasing the phone. The company stated that, nearly 30,000 customers booked the handset at the first batch, despite of the slight glitch in the smartphone.
The company, however, withdrew all the products and made refund pf the payments to the customers, following the close scrutiny by the government agencies. The company also stated that, nearly 30,000 people made payment for booking the smartphone and around 7 crores people made registration for the same.
The President of the Ringing Bells, Ashok Chaddha cleared the air tha the manufacturing cost of the phone was about Rs. 2500, which had to be recovered by various measures like economies of sale, reduction in duties, innovative marketing, and creating e-commerce marketplace.
The phone was decided to be manufactured in Noida and Uttranchal.
The company had also come in the scanner of Excise and Income Tax Department surrounded by debate over the practicability of 3G-enabled handset for Rs.251.
