Samsung has won the battle to be the first phone maker to launch a flexible smartphone. The company announced that the Galaxy Round incorporates the latest flexible screen technology, along with other exclusive features.
The device look likes the Galaxy S3 and S4, but it has minor dip in the center that reasons the phone to curve along a vertical axis. The phone’s body itself is rigid, so it doesn’t exactly flex / bend but rather has a stationary curve that is said to fit the outlines of a person’s face. The company says that this curvature lets user’s controls their apps, music & photos more simply.
The Galaxy Round has a 5.7 inch 1080p with HD Super AMOLED display has a slight horizontal curve. The device is 7.9mm thick, 154g weight and 2800mAh battery. It runs Android 4.3, has 3GB RAM and a 2.3GHz quad core processor. The smartphone also has a 13 megapixel camera..
The product release comes as Samsung faces a slowdown in its smartphone market. It’s indicates the company must discover other ways to wow customers and get them to pay for latest devices.
Curved displays are not completely new to the marketplace. Nokia and Apple have reportedly been working on curved displays for years. Curved displays are on the leading edges of Samsung’s innovation battle with challengers like Apple Inc & LG Electronics as the South Korean firm seeks to expand its lead in the slowing market.
Curved displays open up possibilities for bendable designs that could eventually transform the high-end smartphone market, where growth has slowed amid competition from low-end producers.
Technology firms have yet to understand how to reasonably mass produce the parts & come up with display panels that can be slim and heat resistant. Batteries also have to take new forms to support flexible screens that can be rolled out, attached to rough surfaces or even stretched. The battery in the Galaxy Round is not curved, Samsung said.
Samsung Galaxy Round will first launch in South Korea in “Luxury Brown” & more colors are approaching.
